Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 Meets Jupiter

This 268 x 480 pixel image shows that Shoemaker-Levy 9's nuclei fragments collided with Jupiter just 16 months after their discovery, each leaving a huge and curiously shaped dark blemish on the planet.
